The rosy boa lichanura trivirgata though not as popular as the corn snake or the california kingsnake is still a popular pet snake in the hobby fairly docile the rosy boa doesnt get too large growing to about 4 feet in length when fully grown though average sizes are 2 to 3 feet in length. When choosing a snake as a pet you are making a long term commitment and many species can be expected to live over 20 years you must be willing to feed prey animals to your snake though previously frozen pre killed prey is the safest choice and you will probably have to devote some freezer space to frozen prey items ie rodents. When picking out your first pet snake look for a good beginner species like corn snakes ball pythons or kingsnakes check your local regulations to see if your chosen species is legal to own and if so whether or not you need a permit. Craigslist is full of people trying to get rid of their snakes but for reasons above is less good than other places to get a snake still many times you can get a snake for free there reptile shows are fun places to get your snake and the exhibitors are knowledgeable compared to pet store employees. Arguably the most popular pet snake there is the ball python is a very even tempered docile snake they only grow to be about 3 5 feet in length but can live several decades they get their name from the tight ball they curl up into when they feel threatened
